Tomoo Hamada
濱田 友緒
Tomoo Hamada (b. 1967, Mashiko, Tochigi Prefecture) is a widely respected Japanese ceramic artist and the grandson of Hamada Shoji, a seminal figure in the Mingei movement and a designated Living National Treasure. He received his BA and MA in sculpture from Tama Art University in Tokyo, and in 2008 became the third-generation head of the Hamada Kiln.
While continuing to work with traditional techniques such as the kick wheel and climbing kiln, Hamada has developed a refined, contemporary style that distinguishes his work from previous generations.
He has exhibited, lectured, and conducted workshops across Japan, the United States and Europe.
